Community Service: Action, Service as Action, and CAS at Choice IB
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi
At The Choice School IB, service is not just an activity—it is a philosophy that nurtures responsible, compassionate individuals who actively contribute to their communities. Through Action in the PYP, Service as Action in the MYP, and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) in the DP, students engage in meaningful experiences that cultivate empathy, leadership, and global awareness.
In the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Action is embedded in everyday learning, encouraging students to take initiative and make responsible choices. Whether through environmental efforts, community outreach, or acts of kindness, young learners understand that their actions have the power to bring about change. They begin to see themselves as active participants in their world, capable of making a difference in big and small ways.
As students progress into the Middle Years Programme (MYP), Service as Action takes this engagement further. They identify real-world challenges, develop solutions, and apply their learning beyond the classroom. Whether supporting local communities, addressing global concerns, or leading school initiatives, students cultivate critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Reflection plays a key role, helping them understand the impact of their contributions and the importance of sustained involvement.
In the Diploma Programme (DP), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) becomes an essential part of their IB journey. Creativity fosters innovation in service projects, Activity promotes well-being through physical engagement, and Service encourages deep, meaningful connections with communities. CAS challenges students to commit to long-term initiatives, demonstrating responsibility and initiative in their efforts. It is not just about participation but about meaningful impact, personal growth, and a lifelong commitment to service.
